Milkweed Milk

milkweed milk

Why milkweed is called milkweed. I’d forgotten how profusely they bleed milk!

Sticky, white latexy sap is toxic and can damage skin (and eyes). But golly, how gorgeous: the whole weird, wonderful plant.

And how neat that the butterflies which eat the leaves become just as toxic and nasty-tasting to predators.

By this logic, I should taste like Marmite, toast, and tea.
